Cotton or Polyester – Choose the Best Fabric

The debate over the best fabric has going over decades. Cotton or polyester – everyone has their own priority. Many of people don’t prefer cotton as they tend to shrink and wrinkle is few matter of time. Such prefer going for polyester as they are easy to wear and wash.

More than 100 years ago, fabrics were made from natural resources. Fabrics like cotton, wool, linen and silk were more in used. But, today with the advanced technology, several man made fabrics like rayon, acrylic, nylon and polyester. These fabrics are more durable and long lasting than the fabrics used in old times.

But, still many people prefer cotton fabric all over the work. Even with the few drawbacks, people are opting for cotton fabric, especially for manufacturing cloth line. Cotton has ability to retain 27 times more water than any fabric. Also it’s very easy to wash and retains shape even after being sterilized with extreme high temperature water. When used for wearing in a hot or humid weather, the cotton fabric will breathe, thus less perspiration. In cold weather, cotton fabric absorbs body warmth making it the most suitable fabric to wear in winter.

Fabrics made from cotton tend to absorb water and dirt more easily. Thus, cotton fabrics need to be washed more frequently in comparison to other fabrics. Cotton clothes should be washed in normal or cold water rather than hot water as they tend to shrink faster.

Between 1950 and 1960, polyester was more popular in many countries because of it’s easy to dry and wrinkle free quality. But, as the years passed, cotton garments got into trend and now the purest cotton clothes are a symbol of prestige among rich class of people around the world. Even designers are demanding for fabric which is a blend of 95% pure cotton and 5% of lycra. Using even a small amount of lycra with cotton make the fabric stretch easily. Such mixed fabric are today in high demand by many designers all over the world. 

Even, a unique of cotton/polyester are now seen in the market today. When the both type of fabrics are mixed at a right proportions, the finishing product which is availed is of smoother quality, non-wrinkle, retain shape after wash and more durable.

If you are in to clothing industry, choosing a perfect fabric is the most basic yet important step a person has to make. If you choose the most appropriate fabric, your finished product will be of best quality only.
